ICON is off and running

I just noticed that the new ICON board has put up a blog to keep everyone updated with the next illustration conference. If you haven't heard of ICON, it's a non-profit conference devoted to the illustration profession. About 500 illustrators fly in from all over the world to attend, it's a total blast!

I was on the board for a couple of years and really enjoyed the process, it's not always neat and clean, but the profession deserves a conference where important issues can be raised and discussed. You can check out their website to find out more about the next conference July of 2008.

Gallery 233-One Solo show

Busy couple of weeks here, tomorrow I will have a small solo show opening at a new exhibition space in Alexandria's City Hall. This will be the inaugural show for the space, which should be a great place to see artists that are working in Northern Virginia.

Here are the details:

Wednesday, December 20 from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m.
Please join Mayor Euille in his Office for the opening of Gallery 233-One (The Mayor’s Conference Room, 2331) as we celebrate the first of a series of exhibits by individual Alexandria artists. The work of Bryan Leister, a noted Del Ray artist, will initiate this program. Join the Mayor in welcoming Mr. Leister and in celebrating the work of one of the City’s own. Light refreshments will be served.

City Hall
Room 2331 (Enter through Room 2300)
301 King Street
Alexandria, Virginia 22314

I will be showing my digital encaustic work, along with several oil paintings and pastels. Feel free to drop by for the opening or any time during business hours in the next month or so.

Digital Expo

Today will be a presentation of George Washington University's digital media class and demos of digital tools for use in the interactive arts. We'll be showing examples of character animation the students have created with Maya.

The demos will include live performance media using Max and Jitter, an example of realistic fluid particle simulation and new pieces using motion capture data. GW has a lab for capturing motion using sensors, it should prove quite useful in quickly creating animation based on movement.

Should be a lot of fun, and free pizza!
